Going Above and Beyond...
School Green Awards 2017
Sponsored by StarHub, the School Green Awards (SGA) is administered by the Singapore Environment Council (SEC) and encourages young people to turn their passion for the environment into action, gaining an understanding of environmental sustainability along the way. The SGA aims at educating and inspiring learners of all ages on issues such as waste minimisation, resource conservation and the greening of the school grounds.
Angsana Primary School celebrated its second Lotus Award in 2017, the highest award given to schools for green efforts under the SEC-StarHub SGA.
Angsana Primary School has become greener over the years, having received the Orchid Award in 2015 and our first Lotus Award in 2016. This is an affirmation of our efforts in teaching our children the importance of doing our part in creating a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable future. We would like to especially thank our Green Audit Team for designing the programme to educate our students about environmental stewardship and civic responsibility. All staff and students are commended for their cooperation in greening our school!
We hope to maintain the Lotus Award for three consecutive years to qualify for the Lotus Sustained Achievement Award.
Community In Bloom Awards 2018
NParks has been spearheading the Community In Bloom (CIB) programme to create gardening communities within housing estates, educational institutions and organisations in Singapore by partnering various stakeholders including residents, government agencies, grassroots organisations, schools and organisations. The biennial CIB Awards recognise and reward gardening efforts of Singapore’s gardening groups. The awards aim to motivate and encourage community gardeners to improve the standards of their gardens and to continue to enjoy gardening as a fun and healthy activity. Through such efforts, the awards hope to promote a love for gardening to others in the community.
It is with great pleasure that we share that Angsana Primary School has achieved Gold Award in the CIB Awards 2018, thanks to the efforts of our committed staff, and active parents, especially our PSG in partnering us to champion this cause. This award seeks to recognise our gardening members’ relentless passion in maintaining a wonderful community garden within the school.
Singapore Kindness Movement – Friend of Singa 2017
Friend of Singa (FOS) empowers students to find and implement solutions to promote kindness within the school and the community. Student participants are to lead their schools in a 5-month kindness campaign. The issues for each school may differ, but at the end of this 5-month initiative, student participants will know they can make a difference. FOS also complements MOE’s and the schools’ efforts in Character and Citizenship Education and Values-In-Action programmes.
We are proud to announce that our students’ Kindness@Angsana project has been selected to be featured in the Singapore Kindness Movement programme booklet, as well as to be exhibited under the category of “Most All-Rounded Projects” at Our Tampines Hub, Festive Plaza in November 2017. This is a great recognition for our team of students and staff who have been change agents in educating and motivating their peers to engage in kind actions.
The Caring Teacher Awards
The Caring Teacher Awards (CTAs) is a biennial event that pays tribute to teachers who show care and concern for the holistic development of their students, and go the extra mile to ensure their charges grow up to be confident and independent learners.
14 teachers had been nominated by their colleagues, students and parents to receive our school CTAs in 2018.
